Ingredients

1/3 cup shortening3 tablespoons sugar2 tablespoons brown sugar2 tablespoons beaten egg1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract1/2 cup quick-cooking oats6 tablespoons all-purpose flour1/4 teaspoon baking soda1/8 teaspoon salt1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Preparation

In a small bowl, cream shortening and sugars. Beat in egg and vanilla. In a small bowl, combine the oats, flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stir in walnuts.

Drop by tablespoonfuls 3 in. apart onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 9-11 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Let stand for 2 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
