Ingredients

1/2 cup butter, softened1/3 cup packed brown sugar1 egg1/4 cup maple syrup1 teaspoon vanilla extract1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour2/3 cup ground walnuts1/2 teaspoon baking powder1/4 teaspoon saltCoarse sugar2/3 cup walnut pieces

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350°. In a bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in egg, maple syrup and vanilla. In another bowl, whisk flour, ground walnuts, baking powder and salt; gradually beat into creamed mixture (dough will be soft).

Using a cookie press fitted with a flower or star disk, press dough 1 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Sprinkle with coarse sugar. Top with walnuts.

Bake until bottoms are light brown, 10-12 minutes. Cool on pans 2 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.
